What are You Dreaming of?

Black woman receiving graduation certificate

It’s a New Year. Social media is buzzing with coaches, influencers, and mentors urging us to set ambitious goals. However, I’m taking a different approach . . .

Instead of solely focusing on goals, I’m exploring my dreams.

For years, I dreamt of leaving an employment relationship that I’d been holding on to. I was building a side hustle while longing to set my own schedule, pursue more meaningful work and lead a passionate team who were on fire for our company mission.

Last year (with grant support from NC Idea’s Black Entrepreneurship Council), Growmetix® kicked off Luna Launchpad™ . We were featured in The Charlotte Observer, alongside other ecosystem builders helping to foster diverse small business. And in December, we celebrated the graduation of five exceptional Black womenpreneurs from our incredible capacity building program. Each left with a solid plan and newfound confidence to make the leap from side hustle to full-time self-sustaining business.

Growmetix® was also named to Charlotte Business Journal’s list of Largest Black Owned Companies for the 2nd year in a row. And I personally, was honored to be selected for Career Mastered’s Leadership In Action Award.

You know that I am a strong advocate for planning.

But, the truth is . . . I had no idea launching a business accelerator for women of color or being recognized as one of Charlotte’s leading ecosystem builders was in our future. It wasn’t part of any grand plan. Looking back, I realize that the program’s success stemmed not from meticulous goal setting, planning and scheduling, but from consistent dreaming, hoping and imagining.

This year, my dream is to empower other business owners by writing another book. I don’t yet know what it will be about, but I know I have a lot of productivity hacks that can help you start, build or grow a profitable and sustainable business.
