February is a month of love, and while hearts and flowers are nice, the most important love you can show is love for yourself.
The end of 2024 was rough for me. My long-distance partner of four years moved to Charlotte in December, which I’m thrilled about. However, I also experienced a sense of grief for my old life. The weight of everything—business, family, the state of the world—felt heavy, and my productivity suffered.
This carried into 2025. Starting the year behind wasn’t fun, and I know I’m not alone. If you’re like me, you know you’re building something incredible with your business, but the pressure can be intense. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and forget about your well-being.
But here’s the truth . . . you can’t pour from an empty cup.
That’s why I am prioritizing self-care this month. I’ve learned that I can’t help anyone if I’m not taking care of me — and the same goes for you. This isn’t the first time I’ve written about Quieting the Noise with Self Love.
Here are a few productivity hacks tailored for growing business owners like us:
Schedule “Me Time”: You schedule meetings and client calls, but do you schedule time for yourself? Treat your well-being like an important client. Block out 30–60 minutes two to three times a week for recharging activities. I have a recurring “GGE” (Gal’s Gotta Eat) appointment on my calendar. My sister schedules lunchtime walks. Maybe yours is hitting the gym, listening to music, or simply sitting in silence with a cup of coffee. Whatever it is, see it as an investment in your success; Put it in your calendar and stick to it.
Automate – Don’t sweat the small stuff; Automate it instead! Look for areas where you can delegate or automate. Can you outsource recurring tasks to a Virtual Assistant? Can you use Calendly, Doodle, HubSpot or other scheduling software to streamline your appointments? Getting specific about self-care, consider a recurring grocery delivery or a service like my girl, Sachielle McNeil’s Washroom Laundry to help with chores. Whatever you choose, the idea is to free up your mental space by automating the small stuff.
Connect with Your Tribe – Entrepreneurship is lonely. Make time to connect with other business owners who understand what its like to have the buck stop with you. Join a local networking group (Growmetix® Reading Circle perhaps?), attend industry events, or schedule regular calls with a mentor or friend. I have three people I meet with once per month on rotating Fridays. They are people who see into my experience, rather than taking from it. The key is to find a safe place to share your real experiences and get support from others who “get it”.
This month, make a conscious effort to prioritize your well-being. I’m right there with you, working on it too. Remember, self-care isn’t selfish; it’s essential. You’ll have more energy, focus, and resilience to build the business you love and live the life you deserve.
One last thing . . . Having a sounding board (someone to help you brainstorm and navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship) can make all the difference. If you’d like to explore how coaching can help you prioritize self-care, I’d love to connect.
